Career opportunities for paralegals with BS degrees

Paralegals perform a wide variety of tasks under the supervision of an attorney, including the following:

  • Help attorneys prepare for closings, hearings, trials and corporate meetings
  • Investigate facts of cases
  • Document results of investigations
  • Research and identify appropriate laws and judicial decisions
  • Prepare written reports of research findings
  • Draft pleadings, motions, contacts, mortgages and separation agreements
  • Organize files of case documents
  • Assist during trials

Coursework for our bachelor’s degree in paralegal

Students complete all the core classes required for an associate degree in paralegal. In addition, they take additional classes that cover topics such as the following:

  • Law Office Management
  • Investigations
  • Business Structures
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Legal Research and Writing
  • Supervisory Management

They complete an externship and select legal electives from the following:

  • Technical Communications
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Fraud Examination

They complete general education classes and earn at least six credits in each area below:

  • Communications
  • Social Science
  • Natural Science & Mathematics
  • Humanities

Students are often able to complete bachelor’s degrees in paralegal in three years of full time study. And if they receive credit for work experience and prior learning, they may reduce the number of classes they need to take, saving themselves time and money.*

Online option available

Students may complete the BS degree in paralegal entirely online. They may also take some classes residentially at our Middleton, WI, campus and others through our online division. They are able to save time and money, reducing childcare costs and limiting their commutes. This is a great alternative for students who think they might not have the time to earn BS degrees. They can access course content and complete assignments late at night, early in the morning and on weekends.
